Travel )uncountable noun) and travelling are used to mean the general activity of moving from place to place

• Air travel is becoming cheaper.

• Her work involves a lot of travelling.!! You do not say 'a travel'.

Use journey to talk about travelling a long distance or travelling regularly, when the emphasis is on the travelling itself

 • a long and difficult journey (NOT travel) through the mountains

 • I read during the train journey to work

• Did you have a good journey?            (=Were you comfortable, was the train on time etc?)

A trip is when you go on a short journey, or a journey you do not usually make, and come back again. Use this when the emphasis is on where you are going or why you are going there

• my first trip to the States

 • a business trip • Was it a good trip?   (=Did you achieve what you wanted to or have a good time there?)

Voyage is used for a long sea journey

• a voyage across the oceanCrossing     is used for a fairly short sea journey

• The crossing takes 90 minutes.

Flight    is used for a journey by air

• Have a good flight!

Journey = an act of travelling from one place to another. In BrE it can be long, or short but regular:

* to go on a 6 000-mile journey

* How long is your journey to work?

Trip = a journey to a place and back, especially for a short visit:

* to go on a trip to Disneyland

* a business trip.

In AmE trip is used instead of journey for a short distance:

* The trip takes about 45 minutes.

Travel is an uncountable noun that means the general act of travelling:

* She loves travel.

* The price includes air travel.

Travels [pl] means several journeys to other places or countries, especially far away.

Verbs

To travel puts emphasis on the journey itself:

*to travel abroad

* I usually travel by air.

If you are thinking more about the place you are going to than the journey itself, use to go:

*I'm going to Italy on Friday.

* Do you go to New York often?

* I'm travelling to Italy on Friday. * Do you travel to New York often?

“make it” is a colloquial expression which means arrive, or get to, or manage to do something.

Here are some more examples.

“Can you make it to my party on Saturday?” – which means, will you be able to/manage to come to my party.
“The train goes in five minutes. If we run, we can make it” – which means, if we run we will get to the station in time for the train.
“If John studies hard, he will make it to university.” – which means, he will succeed, he will get a place at university.
“It was a long way to the top of the hill, but after an hour we made it” – which means, after an hour we managed to get to the top of the hill.
